The Inventors’ Harbour turns a waterfront warehouse into a family discovery destination. A harbour is a place where things are assembled, tested and sent into the world; that sequence becomes the visitor journey. Recognisable brick-like modules create terraces, thresholds and building stations, while a central crane-shaped landmark gives the space a memorable orientation point. Families can build small boats, test their behaviour in a controlled water channel and revise their ideas. Caregiver seating and an overlooking gallery make watching part of participation. Quiet building tables offer a calmer alternative to the active test area. The architecture carries the theme even when an activity is closed, avoiding an attraction that becomes an empty room between sessions. Cadimore would develop the attraction proposition, spatial story, age-aware journey and programme mix, with operators and technical specialists validating play, water, access and staffing. Changing challenges and community build days would renew the content within a consistent world. The intended memory is not only ‘I saw something remarkable’, but ‘we made something together’.
The visitor journey
Worktables introduce materials and an achievable family challenge. Brick arches frame the test channel, making the next action visible.
A supervised channel lets visitors compare their small boat designs. An overlooking terrace shows the connection between making and movement.
A shared display celebrates experiments and invites a revised attempt. A clear loop returns to the building stations, supporting repeat play.
