Tidal Ribbon
Concept design · Cadimore
Summary
A continuous brass ribbon frames the waterfront, turning a passing route into a place to stop and look.
The Brief
Give the promenade a focal point without closing the view that makes the setting valuable. The sculpture must work as a distant silhouette and as a passage at walking pace.
The Inspiration
The tide offers a useful contradiction: continuous movement with no fixed destination. A ribbon captures that motion while leaving the skyline visible through its opening.
The Concept
The broad surface twists from a grounded edge into an overhead sweep. Warm metal picks up the sunset; the open loop frames water and skyline, while the reflecting basin extends the gesture below.
The Experience
Visitors first read the whole curve, then walk beneath it. The opening repeatedly repositions the horizon, making a familiar waterfront view feel newly composed as people cross the space.
The Outcome
The promenade gains a landmark that strengthens its relationship with the water. Recognition comes from the silhouette; the reason to linger comes from the framed view and reflected light.
