Architecture in Motion
Performance concept · Cadimore
Summary
A façade projection transforms architectural order into a moving sequence of fracture, flow and reassembly.
The Brief
Use the building’s actual edges as the grammar of the show. The projection needs to reveal and reinterpret the façade, rather than place an unrelated film across it.
The Inspiration
Architecture is normally read as stable mass. Shifting light can make that stability appear to loosen, exposing a temporary alternative to the building’s familiar order.
The Concept
Blue and amber planes follow columns, recesses and rooflines. Their contrasting temperatures distinguish depth from surface, while geometric transitions make the façade appear to fold and reconnect.
The Experience
The sequence begins by tracing the building, then separates its surfaces into larger moving fields. A final reassembly restores the architectural outline, allowing the audience to recognise what has been changed and returned.
Trace
Light identifies the façade’s columns, edges and recesses, establishing the architecture the audience is about to see transformed.
Fracture
Geometric planes separate from that outline, shifting the perceived depth of the building.
Flow
Blue and amber fields travel across the façade, joining the separated surfaces into larger moving phrases.
Reassemble
The moving planes return to the building’s edges, resolving the illusion through recognition of its familiar form.
The Outcome
The building becomes the subject of the spectacle. Its recognisable structure gives the transformation meaning, turning projection mapping into a temporary reading of the architecture.
