Pearling Promenade
Concept design · Cadimore
Summary
A coastal promenade connects the story of pearling with shade, water and spaces for contemporary public life.
The Brief
Make maritime heritage understandable within a working promenade. Interpretation needs to sit comfortably alongside walking, resting and the view of the waterfront.
The Inspiration
The pearl offers a small point of recognition within a larger history of boats, labour and exchange. The project links that intimate object to the openness of the coast.
The Concept
Pearl-like spheres sit beside planted seating, while branching woven canopies give the route shade. A dhow on the waterfront establishes the maritime reference beyond the interpretive objects.
The Experience
Visitors walk along the coast, pause beneath a canopy and encounter the pearl forms at close range. The route lets heritage emerge through a relationship between object, vessel and setting.
The Outcome
The promenade gives the heritage story a place in everyday use. Interpretation and comfort share the same route, making the coastal narrative available through repeated, informal encounters.
