Art Installations & Attractions / Project story
Woven Sky
Concept design · Cadimore
Summary
Woven panels form a soft, suspended ceiling above a courtyard of craft, water and conversation.
The Brief
Make textile craft spatial without losing its tactile character. The overhead installation should unify the courtyard while leaving the activity at ground level open and accessible.
The Inspiration
A woven textile contains both a pattern seen at a distance and a structure understood close to hand. The project works with both readings.
The Concept
Ochre, indigo and ivory bands drape between courtyard supports. Their layered weave filters sunlight; craft tables and low seating bring the material story down to the visitor.
The Experience
The first encounter is with the overhead field. Visitors then move between woven shadows, reflective water and displays where the making of textiles can be examined more closely.
The Outcome
The courtyard connects the scale of an architectural canopy with the scale of a maker’s hands. The fabric gives the place cohesion without overwhelming the craft encounters beneath it.
