Summary
A suspended field of luminous rods behaves like a spatial instrument, with visitors positioned beneath its changing wave.
The Brief
Make light feel composed rather than decorative. The ceiling needs an intelligible rhythm, and the visitor’s interaction must relate to the larger formation overhead.
The Inspiration
An orchestra produces a whole from many distinct voices. The rod field uses that relationship between individual elements and a collective phrase as its organising idea.
The Concept
Closely spaced vertical rods form an undulating ceiling. A dark room removes competing visual detail, while small control plinths place the initiating gesture below the luminous field.
The Experience
Visitors first follow the overhead wave with their eyes, then approach a control point. A small gesture introduces the idea of conducting: a local action is understood in relation to a larger pattern.
The Outcome
The installation gives participation a visible scale. The visitor is neither outside the work nor lost inside an undifferentiated light show; the composition offers a clear relationship between gesture and field.
