A Passage into Flight
Concept design · Cadimore
Summary
A butterfly opens four translucent wings over a garden passage, with bronze veins, coloured light and low seating preserving the moment before flight.
The Brief
The butterfly needs to feel light without losing the presence of a substantial garden shelter. The brief gives the veins structural emphasis and keeps the wings open enough to frame views, passage and places to sit.
The Inspiration
The butterfly suggests becoming, lightness and a change of state. Its veined wings inspire a canopy that holds the instant before flight, inviting visitors to spend time within a form associated with something fleeting.
The Concept
Four translucent teal and copper wings rise around a slender body, traced by bronze veins. Low wing edges become seats, while the lifted surfaces frame a planted passage. Colour and visible structure preserve both delicacy and the butterfly outline.
The Experience
Visitors move beneath the opening wings, settle along their edges and look through overlapping colours. A reachable detail allows a small change in the reading of light, offering a close encounter within the larger garden canopy.
The Outcome
The butterfly’s moment of opening becomes a garden canopy that can be experienced from within. Veined wings, coloured light and low seating bring transformation close to the visitor while preserving the delicacy of the natural outline.
