The Holding of Balance
Concept design · Cadimore
Summary
A clothespin becomes two coloured terraces joined by a coral spring, translating opposing forces into a playful landscape of balance and mutual support.
The Brief
The clothespin depends on two opposing sides acting together. The brief retains that balance in a public setting, giving each jaw a distinct character while using the spring to connect their occupation.
The Inspiration
A clothespin holds through the relationship of two sides and a spring. The concept finds an image of mutual support in that simple mechanism, extending a practical balance into a setting where different people can share space.
The Concept
Lavender and yellow jaw terraces are connected by a coral coil. The tapered sides provide seating edges and places for planting, while the spring becomes a central passage. Colour keeps the parts distinct within a single balanced composition.
The Experience
Visitors approach the open tip, occupy either terrace or pass through the coil. Low captive play elements sit along the edges, offering small acts of coordination alongside places to rest and watch the activity around them.
The Outcome
Opposing forces become a playful image of mutual support. The jaw terraces and central coil bring rest, passage and coordination into one balanced setting, giving a practical object a larger role as a place for people to meet.
